Governor Napolitano

On Monday, April
18, 2005, Alyce
Pennington was honored by Governor
Janet Napolitano
and the Governor’s
Commission on Service and
Volunteerism. Alyce
was selected
as one of 16 winners from
around
the state. She was chosen to
receive the award for her
tireless
advocacy on behalf of clients of the
Volunteer Lawyers
Program (VLP).
Alyce became a
member of the VLP in
1987. During the last eighteen years
Alyce
Pennington with Gov. Janet Napolitano
she has assisted more than
three hundred and fifty clients with
domestic
relations and
domestic violence matters,
dedicating more than seven hundred
hours to clients services. Alyce has accepted some of the most difficult and
challenging divorce and child custody cases ever referred through
the VLP.
Alyce is also actively involved in the VLP’s four domestic
relations clinics. In
the clinics, Alyce leads groups of pro per
clients through the necessary
paperwork to file their divorce or
paternity action.
In addition to her work with clients,
Alyce has volunteered
her time as a
member of the VLP Advisory
board.
Serving on the Advisory Board for
five
years, Alyce has infused the board
with
her energy and enthusiasm.
The Governor’s
Volunteer Service
Awards seek to
recognize individuals,
groups and businesses
who have
made a significant
contribution to
Arizona’s communities through
Gov. Napolitano speaks at the awards ceremony
service.
The Awards honor volunteer
efforts that have
strengthened
communities and have improved
the quality of life for Arizonans.
