Lisa Lewis

April 2005

Lisa Lewis is a third year law student who

has been volunteering with the VLP Advocates

since her first semester of law school in 2002.

She has participated in both the Domestic

Relations Clinic and the Child Support Project

several times. Lisa’s near constant participation

with the VLP Advocates throughout her law

school career has been inspiring and epitomizes

the remarkable desire of the law students at the

College of Law to serve the less fortunate in our community.

Lisa has always been extensively involved in any community of which she is a

part. While an undergraduate at Northern Arizona University, Lisa not only

performed with the NAU Main Stage Theatre Productions, but also published

articles in NAU’s campus newspaper (“The Relevance of Theatre to a Liberal Arts

Education”) and foreign language magazine (“Un Niño Eterno”). After graduating

with a microbiology/pre-med degree from NAU in 1998, Lisa decided to attend

law school. Once she began the College of Law, Lisa immediately became

immersed in a multitude of organizations. In addition to the VLP Advocates, Lisa

serves as an editor on the Arizona Law Review and participates on the National

Moot Court Team, the Law Women’s Association, the Student Bar Association,

and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America. In her spare time, Lisa is a

freelance photographer whose work can be found on several CD covers, jacket

photos, and promotional materials for local musicians.

As Lisa is graduating in May, the legal profession will soon benefit from her

membership in its ranks. Of her volunteer experience with the VLP Advocates,

she notes:

The Volunteer Lawyers Program has given me the opportunity to see first

hand how I can make a difference in people’s lives. I believe that as lawyers

and law students, we have a responsibility to the community to provide

better access to legal services, help people to understand the complicated

process they are going through, and work to improve the perception people

have of the law. VLP has easily been the most rewarding experience I’ve

had in law school and the people I’ve met through VLP are the type of

people we should all aspire to be, those who use their abilities to affect

        change and improve lives.
