Larra
Pleasant
April 2006
2L law student
Larra Pleasant spent her
first twenty-two
years in Connecticut,
growing up in a
small suburb of Hartford
before attending
Yale University, where
she majored in
Sociology and Psychology.
During her
undergraduate years, Larra was
heavily involved
in two dance groups, and
in the school’s
Tutoring in Elementary
Schools (TIES)
program, where she spent
1-2 afternoons a
week working with children
on their reading
and writing skills. A senior
year course in
Constitutional Law sparked an
interest in law
and, following graduation in 2000, Larra moved to Washington,
D.C. to work for a
law firm. Larra does not miss the cold east coast winters,
humidity, and
large, flying insects.
Why did you
choose to become involved in the VLP Advocates?
I knew that I
would regret it if I looked back on law school and my only
experiences were
within the confines of the law school building. Volunteering
and giving back to
the community have always been important to me, and I also
wanted the chance
to balance classroom learning with some practical
experience. It
also helps that many of VLP’s clinics deal with family law, which
is of particular
interest to me.
What has been
your favorite vacation destination?
I spent a week in
Turks and Caicos after graduating from college, and it was
heavenly. I will
be very lucky if I ever get another chance to see beaches that
beautiful!
What is your
favorite restaurant in Tucson?
Guadalajara Grill
What do you
watch on television when you should be studying?
A better question
is what don’t I watch. I love television and will pretty
much
watch anything,
though I try to keep the TV off or go to the library to avoid the
temptation. I
currently make time for Grey’s Anatomy on Sunday nights, and
cheesy reality TV
talent shows (American Idol, America’s Next Top Model, So
You Think You Can
Dance, Dancing With the Stars) are a huge guilty pleasure.
