Michelle Cohen

August 2006

Michelle Cohen is a second year law

student who has spent her summer

volunteering in many different capacities.

Michelle is an efficient and accurate

volunteer, who shows great empathy

for the clients she serves. Driven by

a desire to help those who do not have

the means to secure counsel, Michelle

has exhibited a grounded commitment

to helping others.

Michelle graduated Magna cum Laude

from the University of Arizona in 2003

with a degree in Women’s Studies. In

addition to volunteering with the VLP Advocates, Michelle also volunteers with

the Justice Project and speaks Spanish fluently.

This summer, Michelle is volunteering several times a week in the Child Support

Project, Domestic Relations Follow Up Clinic and the Guardianship Project.

When asked about her experience with the VLP, Michelle comments:

“I decided to go to law school for the distinct purpose of making a positive

impact on people’s lives, especially those people that otherwise would not

have easy access to the legal system. Throughout my first year I had many

conversations with legal professionals warning that helping the disenfranchised

can easily take a back seat in one’s career. Programs like the VLP serve as

an important introduction to serving others in a legal context and it provides

law students with an opportunity to meet lawyers that continue to make this

    a priority.”
