Brandi Blair
February 2006
Brandi Blair, a 1L law student, has
spent a
great deal of her free time this
year assisting
the VLP’s Domestic Relations
Follow-Up
Clinic--often on very short notice.
Before
coming to Tucson to attend law
school,
Brandi spent most of her life
moving
between the Pacific Northwest and
Hawaii. Brandi joined the Army at
seventeen and started college,
majoring
in English Literature and Creative
Writing
after completing her service
commitment.
Why did you choose to become involved in the VLP Advocates?
I chose to become a VLP advocate
mainly because I feel like the opportunities I
have been given in
terms of education and law school are incredible. I think it is
important to find ways, even at this early stage, to use those
opportunities to
benefit others where I can.
What has been the most important
thing you have learned from volunteering with the VLP?
I have always been aware that the
legal system can be complicated and is
sometimes unfair. But I
always associated such concepts with murder
defendants and the like.
Volunteering with the VLP has really made me think
about the more
mundane situations, such as divorce, in which people have to
navigate the system alone.
What are your hobbies?
In my free time (what free time??)
I am a dressage rider. I have three horses and
train most days of
the week.
What is your favorite restaurant in
Tucson?
I guess I should name something
classy that I like as my favorite restaurant, like
Soleil. But the
truth is I love the beer battered mushrooms and IPA at Thunder
Canyon Brewery.
