Julie Glendinning
January 2006
Julie
Glendinning is a 2L from Tulsa,
Oklahoma. A graduate of the University
of
Central Oklahoma and Oklahoma
City University, Julie has B.A.s in
Theatre
Arts and
Journalism/Advertising. As an
under-graduate, Julie was an actress
in
a traveling children’s theatre troupe which
performed in schools
throughout the
Texas/Oklahoma/Kansas
area, visiting
rural schools which otherwise would not
experience
the theater.
Julie has
also been a longtime counselor for Make Promises Happen, a camp for
mentally and physically disabled children. During her 1L year of law
school, Julie
created and organized a new charity that provided
gifts for over 100 of the
children represented by the University of
Arizona’s child advocacy clinic. Julie
has been a volunteer with
VLP in both the Child Support and Guardianship
clinics.
Why did you choose
to become involved in the VLP Advocates?
I think that community
service should be a large part of everyone’s life. Not only
does it
benefit others, but it also so personally rewarding. I am so
thankful my
family encouraged me to volunteer with handicapped
children when I was in high
school. I feel like that experience
helped me to keep my priorities straight during
an age when it is
easy to forget what is important. Volunteer work is something
that
will always be a part of my life, and the VLP is such a wonderful
program
that I feel blessed to be a small part of that.
What has been your
best vacation destination?
Jamaica:
clear water, sandy beaches. Of course, that was my honeymoon – so
I
have to say that in case my husband reads this!
Where are you
from, originally?
Oklahoma
(where the wind comes sweepin’ down the plain……)
What do you watch
on television when you should be studying?
As
embarrassing as it is to admit, I’m addicted to both American Idol
and The
Apprentice. Oh, and if I can make myself stay up late
enough – IRON CHEF!
