Dennis Bastron
January
2008
Dennis Bastron is a
second year law student at the
U of A. Dennis has been
one of the VLP’s most
dedicated volunteers in
the Child Support Clinic this
fall. He is bright and
extremely professional, and he
possesses a valuable
ability to keep clients focused
on the issues at hand.
Dennis’s high level of commitment to the Child Support
Clinic has benefited many
families by ensuring that their child support figure was
accurately calculated.
The VLP is very fortunate to have such a committed and
exceptional volunteer as
Dennis!
As a native
Tucsonan, Dennis plans to remain in Tucson after graduation in 2009.
When asked to
describe his idea of the perfect job, location is key; “I’ll
probably
be happy as long
as I’m practicing law here in Tucson.” While he hasn’t decided
if he would like
to work for a big firm, small firm, or on his own, he would like to
specialize in real
estate and business law. With this goal in mind, Dennis feels
he was very
fortunate to have his Contracts class with his favorite professor,
Darian Ibrahim.
Dennis has nothing but praise for Professor Ibrahim stating “his
lectures were
helpful, everything was clear, and the class moved along at a good
pace.”
Dennis says that
the experiences he has had during law school and through the
VLP have changed
his view of our legal system. “You hear a lot of criticisms of
the law coming
into law school—that it’s too slanted in favor of one interest or
the
other. But I’ve
learned that the rules as they are written really seem fair. All
the
cases you read,
whether you agree with them or not, are very logical and
reasonable. It’s
the enforcement of those rules that can be unfair to some
clients. It
really becomes important for attorneys to stick up for their clients
and
make
sure that the laws are being applied as they should be.”
In his free time,
Dennis is an avid fan U of A basketball and football fan and tries
to attend as many
games as he possibly can during the semester. Sports
provide a much
needed study break for Dennis as he enjoys playing pickup or
intramural
basketball. Dennis also likes trying out different restaurants
around
town. His
current, personal favorite is Firebird’s Rocky Mountain Grill.
When asked about his
experience with the VLP, Dennis comments:
“I wanted to become involved in more activities during my second
year
so I went to the
VLP pitch at the beginning of the semester. It sounded
like it was a good
cause, like something I could do, and like something
I would benefit
from as well. I’ve learned that the legal system really
confuses people
and just a little bit of help from someone that knows
the law can go a
long ways.”
