Jaime Williams

June 2008

The VLP is proud to announce that

the Outstanding Law Student Volunteer

for June 2008 is Jamie Williams.

Jamie will be a second year student

at the U of A College of Law, and was

an exceptional volunteer in the Intake

Clinic during the spring semester.

Jamie was a highly effective interviewer--

she was able to obtain all pertinent

information quickly without making

the client feel rushed.  Jamie’s skill,

competence, and compassion make

her a real asset to the VLP.

Jamie is originally from Phoenix, Arizona.  She graduated cum laude from the

University of California, Irvine with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology, Law and

Society, and Political Science.  In addition to volunteering with the VLP during

her first year of law school, Jamie has volunteered with the Juvenile Project, the

Justice Project, and the National Lawyers Guild.  She is also a member of the

U of A’s Journal of International and Comparative Law.  Fortunately, Jamie feels

that she has learned to deal with the stress of law school and participating in

so many activities with a little help from her favorite professor, Professor

Kenny Hegland.  She says he has taught her to “relax and to enjoy law

school.  Stressing over grades isn’t worth it.”

In her free time, Jamie enjoys watching Law & Order SVU, skiing, scuba diving,

working out, and reading books that have nothing to do with law school.  Her

favorite Tucson restaurant is the Lerua’s on Broadway.  A favorite vacation

destination of hers is Newport Beach in California.  When looking to the

future, Jamie hopes to one day be in her dream job by founding an elder

law firm.

Jamie became involved with the VLP because she “wanted to be involved in

an organization that helped others.  I also wanted the opportunity to apply

concepts learned in the classroom to the real world.”  She says that the

most important thing she has learned from volunteering with the VLP is

how to interview clients effectively, and more importantly, how to listen to

a client’s response.”
