Kaytlyn Yrun-Duffy

Kaytlyn Yrun-Duffy

May 2011

The VLP is proud to

announce that Kaytlyn

Yrun-Duffy has been chosen

as the VLP Outstanding

Law Student of the Month

for the month of May.

Kaytlyn is a first year law

student at the U of A and

has been volunteering in the

VLP’s Service Center

Clinic.  Kaytlyn is very

logical and knowledgeable;

she’s great at keeping clients

focused on the actual issues

in their case.  She has a

wonderful, warm personality that helps her establish good rapport with clients.

Kaytlyn also has a demonstrable commitment to public service and is one of

our most frequent volunteers.  It is clear that Kaytlyn has a bright future ahead

of her and the VLP is thrilled to count her among our volunteers.

Kaytlyn says she has known since she was very young that she wanted to be

a lawyer. She is a native Tucsonan and attended the U of A as an undergrad.

During that time, she attended several events hosted by the U of A’s James E.

Rogers College of Law.  Kaytlyn says that she really enjoyed the atmosphere

and environment of the law school during those events and these experiences

confirmed that the U of A law school was the correct choice for her.  Kaytlyn

finished up her undergrad experience by graduating magna cum laude in 2010

with a degree in Sociology and a minor in Crime and Public Policy.

Since coming to law school, Kaytlyn says that her favorite professor has been

Professor David Marcus.  She describes him as “a wonderful civil procedure

teacher” and “incredibly supportive.” Kaytlyn deeply appreciates Professor

Marcus’s willingness and desire to really get to know his students.  She says,

“He is always there to talk to and answer questions, and he truly cares.”  We

asked Kaytlyn if her experiences in the VLP and in law have changed her views

on the law.  She responded with an emphatic ‘yes’.  “I entered law school with

the idea that there were right and wrong answers. I have definitely gained the

perspective that everything is grey.”

Kaytlyn says that she got involved with VLP during her first year of law school

because “it seemed like a wonderful opportunity to get real world experience,

have contact with clients, learn from the volunteer attorneys, and become more

involved in the legal community.”  When asked what she wants to do after

graduation Kaytlyn says she’s not sure.  She is currently interning at the

McCarthy Law Firm and her experiences there and in the VLP’s Service Center

Clinic have her considering the possibility of becoming a family law attorney.

Kaytlyn says that no matter what career path she chooses she hopes to be

make a positive impact in her field.

When Kaytlyn needs a break from studying she turns to playing tennis, hiking,

reading, attending Zumba classes with her friends, and eating out at Wildflower.

She also tries to leave time to just relax on the couch and catch episodes of

The Good Wife or Law and Order.  And in two more years—once she’s done

with law school and taken the bar—we’ll probably find her taking a well-deserved

vacation on Paradise Island in the Bahamas.
