Glenn McLeod
September 2007
The VLP is pleased to
recognize Glenn MacLeod as
the Outstanding Student
Volunteer for September. Glenn
dedicated countless hours
this summer to help clients in
the VLP’s Domestic
Relations Follow Up Clinic. Glenn will
enter his second year of
law school this fall.
Where did you
attend undergraduate school?
California
Polytechnic, San Luis Obispo (a.k.a. Cal Poly, SLO)
What was your
major?
Aeronautical
Engineering
What is your past
work experience?
I worked at
Hewlett-Packard (salesperson for fifteen years- I sold communi-
cation components
to networking companies). Prior to HP I worked in design
for Sargent
Controls, which moved to Tucson shortly after I left. While an
undergraduate I
did research for NASA as an intern.
What have you
enjoyed most about your work with the VLP?
My work with VLP,
my first hands-on legal experience, has made me more
confident about my
decision to change careers. As a salesperson, I enjoyed
finding solutions
for my customers' needs and advocating for those solutions.
I hoped that as an
attorney I would be able to apply my problem solving and
advocacy
experience from fifteen years in sales to contribute on a more
personal
level - to help
the one sitting next to me in a meaningful way. Working with the
volunteer
attorneys at SALA, I can see this is possible as they help clients
by
way of their
practical knowledge of the legal system. I am as attentive in trying
to learn from the
lawyers' practical experience as I was in torts class with
Professor Dobbs,
who Supreme Court Justices pay attention to.
How do you spend
your free time?
My preferred study
break is playing altered-tuning acoustic guitar. At the Old
Town Artisan
Theatre this Thursday, David Wilcox, my favorite songwriter in
this art, will be
performing.
