Jon Iurino
December 2007
By
Michele Mirto
John Iurino has been selected as the Outstanding
Pro Bono Attorney of the Month for December. John
has been a member of the VLP for 19 years. In that
time, he has assisted clients with contract, debt collection and
real property
matters. With the help of Pat Mause, John recently completed a VLP
case for a
client that involved a contract issue. John dedicated twenty hours
to the matter.
The client was extremely pleased with the outcome. The program is
grateful to
both John and Pat for their work on this case. The VLP’s monthly
award is a
distinct honor: of the 1220 attorneys who volunteer their time with
VLP, only 12
receive the VLP’s Outstanding Pro Bono Attorney award each year.
Q
& A with John Iurino:
How long have you lived in Tucson ?
I
have lived and practiced law in Arizona for the past 27 years and in
Tucson for
the past 25 years.
Anyone you would like to acknowledge for contributing to your legal
career /pro bono service?
I
was privileged to have had the opportunity to work with John P.
Frank at the
very beginning of my legal career. John, and other Lewis and Roca
partners like
Peter Baird and Joe McGarry, taught by example that pro bono work is
an
important part of being a lawyer. I consider myself very fortunate
to be able to
practice law and view pro bono service as one way to give something
back to
the community and legal system.
One reason you would encourage attorneys to volunteer with VLP?
People sometimes need our help. Every client I have had the
opportunity to
represent through VLP has been a good person, with real legal needs,
and
each one has been extremely appreciative of the assistance I have
been able
to
give.
Favorite Tucson restaurant?
Cafe Poca Cosa, both Little and Big
Best thing about being an attorney in Tucson ?
The collegiality of the Tucson bar. My Mom had a quote from Ralph
Waldo
Emerson on our refrigerator when I was growing up that said : "Good
manners
are the happy way of doing things." That said a lot to me when I was
growing
up
and I think it is still good advice today.
If
you ever retire from private practice, it will be to start a new
career as
a
______?
Gardener.
Any hidden talents?
If
so, they remain hidden.
