Heather Strickland
December 2008
By Stacy Rupprecht
Butler
The Attorney of
the Month for December
is Heather
Strickland.
Heather began
her work with
Southern Arizona Legal
Aid's Volunteer
Lawyers Program as
a law student,
participating in all of the
VLP clinics and
dedicating the summer
and fall of 2003
to assisting clients in
need of Chapter 7
bankruptcy. As an
attorney,
Heather's involvement in the
VLP has included
direct representation
of clients in
domestic relations/domestic
violence cases and
participation in the
VLP's Domestic
Relations Clinics and Child Support Project. This year Heather
has expanded her
work with the VLP to include the training of law students and
the recruitment of
new volunteers.
The VLP’s monthly
award is a distinct honor:
of the 1240
attorneys who volunteer their time with VLP, only 12 receive the
VLP’s Outstanding
Pro Bono Attorney award each year.
Q&A with
Heather Strickland:

from?
I am
a native Tucsonan.

Smith College in
Northampton, MA; University of Arizona College of Law.

Anyone you
would like to acknowledge for contributing to your legal

Luis Ochoa was the
attorney who led my law student training session for the
Bankruptcy
Clinic. He said that volunteering with VLP was addictive. He was
right, and now
when I train law students for the Domestic Relations Clinic, I
warn them that
they won't be able to stop.
Best thing
about being an attorney in Tucson?
Tucson is city
with a small town feel.
Worst thing
about being an attorney in Tucson?
Tucson is a city
with a small town feel.
If you ever
retire from private practice, it will be to start a new career as
a ______?
A Bed and
Breakfast host. I love cooking and feeding people, making sure they
are comfortable,
and helping them plan their visit to Tucson.
