Jennifer Rebholz
July 2007
Jennifer Rebholz
has been selected
as the Outstanding
Pro Bono Attorney
of the Month for
July, 2007. A member
of Southern
Arizona Legal Aid's (SALA)
Volunteer Lawyers
Program (VLP) since
2005, Jen
frequently assists clients in
the VLP’s Child
Support Project at
Superior Court.
Through the project Jen
supervises law
students as they meet
with unrepresented
litigants prior to final
divorce hearings.
The students review
documents and
calculate child support
to ensure that
children receive the support to which they are legally entitled.
Students also work
to ensure that children have access to safe shelter,
education and
medical care. The students prepare new and accurate documents
if the child
support amount calculated by the client is incorrect. In 2007,
clients
who participated
in the Project have experienced an average increase of $412.80
per month in their
child support award.
Recently, Jen also
helped the VLP coordinate it’s first ever benefit concert, and
on the day of the
event took charge of selling raffle tickets. As a result of Jen’s
efforts and all of
those who contributed to the event, the VLP raised more than
$2,000 to assist
clients in need. The VLP’s monthly award is a distinct honor:
of the 1220
attorneys who volunteer their time with VLP, only 12 receive the
VLP’s Outstanding
Pro Bono Attorney award each year.
Q & A with
Jennifer Rebholz:
Where are you
from?
I was born and
raised in Tucson. My whole family still lives here: mom, dad,
brother, cousins,
aunts and uncles and my grandma. I don’t know what I would
do without their
love and support.
Where did you go
to college?
I went to NAU
1998-2002 (Criminal Justice major/ Economics minor)
Where did you go
to law school?
Gonzaga University
School of Law 2002-2005
What are your
current practice areas?
I currently work
at James Farley & Associates as In-House Counsel for
Farmers Insurance.
Anyone you would
like to acknowledge for contributing to your legal
career / pro bono
service?
I would like to
thank Cathy Yarnes for getting me involved with the VLP.
She called me as
soon as she heard I passed the bar so that I could get
involved. I would
also like to thank Cynthia Choate for mentoring me
and encouraging me
to become an active bar member.
One reason you
would encourage attorneys to volunteer with VLP?
I would encourage
attorneys to volunteer with VLP because it gives you
a chance to
genuinely feel like you made a positive difference. The
people you assist
through VLP are always so gracious and it always
reminds me why I
wanted to become a lawyer in the first place.
