Emily Dillof

March 2006

By Michele Mirto

Emily Dillof has been selected as the

Outstanding Pro Bono Attorney of the

Month for March by the Volunteer Lawyers

Program (VLP).  Of the more than 1100

attorneys who volunteer their time with

the VLP, only 12 receive the VLP’s

Outstanding Pro Bono Attorney Award each

year.  The VLP is co-sponsored by Southern

Arizona Legal Aid and the Pima County Bar

Association.

Emily has been volunteering with the VLP since January of 2005.  In that short

time, Emily has made a significant impact on the VLP and its clients.  She

participates in the VLP Domestic Relations Clinics and also provides direct

representation to clients in domestic relations cases.  The majority of Emily’s

clients are also victims of domestic violence.  Emily not only assists VLP clients

when called upon by staff, but frequently calls the program and requests that

staff send her cases.

Emily moved to Tucson from New York to attend the University of Arizona James

E. Rogers College of Law.  She enjoyed the climate and the lifestyle so much

that upon graduation, she decided to stay.  Emily was admitted to practice in

Arizona in 2003.  She began her career at Legal Aid and said that she became a

lawyer because she wanted to help people.  “While I worked at Legal Aid, I saw

first hand the kind of difference that having legal representation can make for

individuals and for the community,” Emily wrote.  “It is rewarding to be a part of

that.”

When asked what she likes most about practicing law in Tucson Emily replied, “I

like practicing family law in Tucson because it is a friendly community and I have

found that most of the attorneys I deal with are committed to resolving disputes

rather than exacerbating them.”

When she’s not working or volunteering with the VLP, Emily practices yoga,

hikes and travels.  The VLP is grateful to Emily and to all of our volunteers for

everything that they do to assist clients in the community who have nowhere else

to turn.
