Lisa Schriner Lewis

May 2006

By Stacy Rupprecht Butler

Lisa Schriner Lewis has been selected as

the Outstanding Pro Bono Attorney of the

Month for May.  Lisa has provided legal

assistance to VLP clients in the area of

domestic relations since her admission

to the Arizona bar last fall.  Lisa also

volunteered extensively with VLP while

in law school at the University of Arizona,

and was named the VLP Student of the Month in April 2005.   As a volunteer

attorney, Lisa has been a frequent participant in the Child Support Project,

where she supervises law students as they calculate support for pro pers at

default hearings.  Lisa has also provided coverage for attorneys that have had

to cancel a clinic on short notice.  In addition, Lisa accepts domestic relations

cases for direct representation.  The VLP’s monthly award is a distinct honor:

of the 1100 attorneys who volunteer their time with VLP, only 12 receive the

VLP’s Outstanding Pro Bono Attorney award each year.

Q & A with Lisa Schriner Lewis:

Where are you from?

I was born here in Tucson, but moved to Seattle for a few years and then came

back to Tucson for law school.

Where did you go to college?

I graduated from UA law school in 2005 and did my undergrad at NAU majoring

in Pre-Med/Microbiology.

What are your current practice areas?

I am currently practicing primarily in the area of Family Law.

What drives you to volunteer with VLP?

I started volunteering with VLP within a couple of weeks of being admitted to the

Arizona bar. It was one of the most rewarding things I did as a law student at UA,

and I could not wait to get involved as an attorney. Volunteering gives me access

to the people who need the most help and have the least amount of resources. I

believe the legal community has a responsibility to provide better access to legal

services and to use our training to affect change and improve the lives of those

who really need help.

Things you do when not working or volunteering your legal services?

I love movies, and supporting the local Tucson music scene, and photography -

primarily black and white.
