» Pima County Outstanding Attorney of the Month

Rudy Valenzuela

May 2008

The Attorney of the Month for May is Rudy Valenzuela.  Mr. Valenzuela was

selected to receive this award once before, about 10 years ago.  VLP selected

him a second time not only because he has continues to serve clients, but

because he has actually expanded the services he provides. Recently the

VLP expanded its pro per clinics to include a domestic relations clinic in

Spanish in Pima County.  Mr. Valenzuela was the first attorney to step up

and agree to lead the workshop in Spanish.  The VLP’s monthly award is

a distinct honor: of the 1100 attorneys who volunteer their time with VLP,

only 12 receive the VLP’s Outstanding Pro Bono Attorney award each year.

Q&A with Rudy Valenzuela:

Where are you from?

I was born and raised in Tucson, and I attended the University of Arizona for

both college and law school.

What are your current areas of practice?

Personal injury, criminal defense and domestic relations.

Anyone you would like to acknowledge for contributing to your legal

career / pro bono service?

Luis Ochoa -- he is an outstanding attorney and person, and I give my props to

him.

What drives you to volunteer with VLP?

I enjoy volunteering because I’ve very blessed in my life and I want to give back

to the community.

What do you do to unwind after work?

I’ve been playing in various baseball and softball leagues for the past several

years.
