» Pima County Outstanding Attorney of the Month

Jeannette Geiser

September 2006

by Stacy Rupprecht Butler

Jeannette Geiser has been selected as

the Outstanding Pro Bono Attorney of

the Month for September.  Jeannie has

been a volunteer with the VLP since 1992.

She assists the program by helping clients

with wills and estate matters.  She recently

closed a case that she worked on for several

years and to which she dedicated more than

100 hours.  The VLP’s monthly award is a

distinct honor: of the 1100 attorneys who

volunteer their time with VLP, only 12 receive the VLP’s Outstanding Pro Bono Attorney award each year.

Q & A with Jeannie Geiser:

Where are you from?

I’m a native Arizonan – I was born in Phoenix; went to ASU for undergrad and

graduated U of A law school in 1973.

What is the history of your practice of law?

I began with Holesapple, Conner, Jones & Johnson doing subrogations and

insurance defense, 3 years with the Pima County Public Fiduciary as a deputy,

10 years with Molloy, Jones & Donahue and as a sole practitioner since 1990.

What drives you to volunteer with VLP?

The clients are interesting and appreciative.

Anyone you would like to acknowledge for contributing to your legal

career / pro bono service?

I would never have gone to law school without the encouragement and support I

received from my husband, Ed, and his offer to do the laundry if I did go.  When I

started law school my youngest of 3 children was still in diapers.

One reason you would encourage attorneys to volunteer with VLP?

The time involved is relatively insignificant and the personal reward is great.

Best thing about being an attorney in Tucson?

The cooperation and mutual respect among members of the probate bar.

What do you do to unwind after work?

As little as possible.

Food you can’t live without?

Chocolate.

Best vacation destination?

Kaibab forest – no phones, no planes, no cars, no people.
