Steve Weinstein
September 2009
By Stacy
Rupprecht Butler
Steve Weinstein
has been selected
as the Outstanding
Pro Bono
Attorney of the
Month for September.
Steve was selected
to receive this
award for his
recent work on a
domestic relations
case where he
helped a victim of
domestic violence
The opposing party
and family were
particularly
difficult. Steve stepped
in and advocated
on behalf of the
client, securing
her safety, personal
property and pets,
as well as spousal
maintenance.
Steve has been a
member of the VLP
since 1991 and is a frequent participant in the VLP’s
Domestic Relations
Pro Per clinics. The VLP’s monthly award is a distinct
honor: of the 1220
attorneys who volunteer their time
with VLP, only 12
receive the VLP’s
Outstanding Pro Bono Attorney award each year.
Q & A with Steve
Weinstein:
Where are you
from? Where did you go to college? Where did you go
to law school?
Tucson. Yes I am
one of the few natives of Tucson.
What is the
history of your practice of law?
The first day that
I was authorized to practice I was in court at an Order to
Show Cause
Hearing. There have been way too many such Hearings since
then.
What are your
current practice areas?
Domestic
Relations, Personal Injury and a mish mash of other civil areas.
Favorite Tucson
restaurant?
Since I like to
eat, I have no single favorite eatery.
Things you do when
not working or volunteering your legal services?
Spending time with
friends and family having good times.
If this award was
accompanied by prize money,
how would you spend it?
I would give it to
my wife, of course.
If you ever retire
from private practice, it will be to start a new career
as a ______?
Are you kidding?
Retirement is still at least 15 years away! My youngest son
is only 10 years
old and you know what that means.
Things that you
wish were closer to your office?
My house‑-I live
out by the Saguaro National Park East.
