Gus Aragon

Pima County

Gus has been a participant in the Volunteer Lawyers

Program in Pima County since 1985, where he provides

legal advice and representation in the area of tort defense. 

Over the last seventeen years, Gus has represented fifty

low-income clients and dedicated more than two hundred

hours to their cases.  Gus has also been a long time

member of the Volunteer Lawyers Program Advisory Board.

William Bacon

Pima County

Bill has been active in the Volunteer Lawyers Program in

Pima County since 1987.  He assists low-income clients

in the Advice Only Clinic where he offers information and

brief service with consumer, debt collection, bankruptcy,

real property and employment issues.  Bill also accepts

cases for direct representation.  “I would encourage other members of the bar

to participate in the VLP,” said Bill.  “Even a few hours of time can have a

significant impact on the lives of individuals confronted with legal problems.”

Sharan Bennett

Graham County

Sharan Bennett has played many different roles in her lifetime; as a teacher,

missionary, attorney, mother, and grandmother, she has traveled the world

extensively and now uses her talents in Safford, Arizona.  Recently retired from

her family law practice, Bennett has devoted countless hours to helping clients in

need.  As the first volunteer attorney to organize domestic relations clinics in

Graham and Greenlee Counties, Bennett brings her valuable and fascinating

background as a world traveling teacher-turned-attorney to each clinic.

Rob Charles

Pima County

Since 1991 Rob Charles has been providing pro bono

legal services through the Volunteer Lawyers Program

in Pima County.  IN that time he has assisted one

hundred and twenty-six clients with consumer

bankruptcy issues.  Robparticipates in the Chapter

7 Bankruptcy Pro Se Clinic and also accepts Chapter

13 bankruptcy case for direct representation.

Cheryl Copperstone

Pima County

Cheryl joined the Volunteer Lawyers Program in Pima County in 1996.  During

the last six years Cheryl has provided pro bono legal assistance to more than

one hundred clients.  Cheryl participates in the Domestic Relations pro per

clinics and the Chapter 7 Reaffirmation Clinic.  She also accepts cases for direct

representation.

Gregory L. Droeger

Santa Cruz County

Having served as a volunteer attorney for many years, Greg Droeger represents

pro bono clients on a variety of cases, including real property and probate

cases.  Droeger is a thoughtful, caring attorney who uses his propensity for the

law to serve those who are less fortunate in society.

Chris Enos

Pima County

Chris has been a member of the Volunteer Lawyers Program in Pima County

since 1995.  Over the last seven years he has assisted one hundred and sixty-

three clients with debt collection, tort defense and consumer matters.  Chris is

a frequent participant in the Advice Only Clinic and also accepts cases for direct

representation.

Robert Fleming

Pima County

Robert has been a member of the VLP in Pima County for seventeen years,

preparing wills for clients and representing others in probate, guardianship,

exploitation and real property matters.

 

“I participate in the VLP because I must.  Too many people can’t afford lawyers,

or believe that they can’t,” said Fleming.  “There are also benefits to the lawyers

who participate.  In fact, in my personal experience, the principal benefit to

clients has usually been peace of mind; it is very rewarding to participate in a

program supplying that product.”

Scott Gan

Pima County

Scott has assisted clients of the VLP in Pima County

since 1986 providing assistance in the area of consumer

bankruptcy.  Scott has also participated in the

Reaffirmation Clinic and has helped to train law students

to appear at reaffirmation hearings in Bankruptcy Court. 

“Accepting clients from VLP is perhaps the best way

an attorney can show his or her devotion to the practice

of law, and to the principles of ordered justice.”

Scott Gibson

Pima County

Scott has been assisting VLP clients with bankruptcy issues in Pima County     

since 1988, during which he has represented clients in consumer bankruptcy

cases, assisted with volunteer recruitment and helped the VLP obtain funding.

 

“I am not sure how long I have participated in the program or how many cases I

have handled.  The time and numbers are unimportant.  The gratification comes

from the sincere appreciation I received from the clients that I have had the

opportunity to help,” said Scott.

Gloria Goldman

Pima County

Gloria has been a member of the Volunteers Lawyers Program in Pima County   

since 1991 where she has provided services to battered women and juveniles in

need of assistance with immigration matters.  She has dedicated an average of

thirty hours to each pro bono case referred to her.

James Jutry

Pima County

Jim has been a member of the Volunteers Lawyers Program in Pima County for

two years.  He provides services to clients through the Arizona Community Legal

Assistance Program (ACLA), a VLP sponsored program.  Through ACLA Jim

helps community based nonprofit groups with tax, corporate, partnership and

general business matters.  Jim has also been instrumental in the training of

new volunteer lawyers.

Nancy O’Neill

Pima County

One hundred and eighty-seven clients have received pro bono legal assistance

from Nancy through her work with the Volunteer Lawyers Program in Pima

County.  A member since 1993, Nancy helps low income clients with domestic

relations issues.  Nancy participates in the Domestic Relations pro per clinics. 

She also accepts some of the program’s most complicated cases for direct

representation.

Juan Perez-Medrano

Pima County

Juan has participated in the Volunteer Lawyers Program in Pima County since

1985.  He assists low-income clients with domestic c relations, bankruptcy and

wills. More than two hundred low income clients have received pro bono legal

assistance from Juan.  He has also committed countless hours to the Volunteer

Lawyers Program Advisory Board.

Dean Sipe

Pima County

Dean has been a member of the Volunteer Lawyers Program in Pima County

since 1984.  In that time he has assisted more than two hundred clients with

bankruptcy matters.  Dean participates in the Chapter 7 pro per clinic and the

Reaffirmation Clinic in Bankruptcy Court.  Dean also accepts more complicated

Chapter 7 cases for direct representation.

Russell Stowers

Pima County

Russ has been a member of the Volunteer Lawyers

Program in Pima County since 1996.  In that time he

has assisted low-income clients with landlord/tenant

and real property matters.  Russ also assists the staff

of the Volunteer Lawyers Program in placing pro bono

cases within his law firm.

Ruben Terán

Cochise County

By anyone’s account, Ruben Terán is a first-rate attorney; he is an even better

volunteer.  Terán likes to joke that clients often bring him milk and home grown

produce as gestures of gratitude for his services, yet we all know their gratitude

extends well beyond their gifts.  Terán has donated much of his time to assist

elderly, Spanish speaking clients with writing their wills, and also represents

clients with real estate matters.

Steven Weinstein

Pima County

Steve has been assisting clients of the Volunteer Lawyers Program in Pima        

County since 1991.  He represents clients in domestic relations matters and is

a frequent participant in the domestic relations pro per clinics where he provides

information and advice to clients.

Catherine Woods

Pima County

Cathy has been a member of the VLP in Pima County

since 1989.  During that time she assisted clients with

landlord/tenant, tort defense and domestic relations

matters.

 

“I believe that all members of our community are entitled

to have access to the courts and the legal system,” said Cathy.  “In what must

seem like a very intimidating and confusing system to non-lawyers, I find it

personally rewarding to offer my services to people in need who otherwise are

not able to afford to pay lawyers to represent them."
