Outstanding Law Student of the Month Award
The VLP is pleased to announce that Audrey Roberts has been selected as our Outstanding Law Student Volunteer for the month of May 2015. Audrey recently finished her 1L year at the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law and participates in the VLP’s Minor Guardianship Project.
Audrey is from Tucson, and stayed close to home for her undergraduate degree. She attended the University of Arizona, and received a Bachelor of Science in Heath Science and a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience & Cognitive Science. She was recognized with several honors and awards for academic excellence throughout her undergrad career and graduated summa cum laude with Honors in Physiology. During undergrad, Audrey was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society, participated in the Hymenoptera Brain Research Lab, and volunteered at St. Elizabeth’s Health Center and the Parkinson Wellness Recovery Gym.
Post-graduation, Audrey originally planned to enter a Master’s program in Cellular and Molecular Medicine at U of A. However, given the chance to enter law school, Audrey changed her plans and enrolled at the James E. Rogers College of Law instead. As a 1L, she decided to join the VLP because, according to Audrey, she “wanted to get started helping people with legal issues as soon as possible.”
Audrey also shared the most important thing she’s learned since joining the VLP’s Minor Guardianship Project. She said,
It is very important to establish a connection with clients. Even just making introductions and small talk helped with the nervousness everyone was experiencing and helped to make the whole process more enjoyable.
We also asked Audrey to share some of her favorite things. Her favorite vacation destination is Cheyenne, WY because “it is so calm and has the small-town feel, but then it gets crazy during Cheyenne Frontier Days.” Her favorite Tucson restaurant is The Parish because she “can’t get enough of the mesquite smoked salmon salad and Dutch well water.” When she’s avoiding her legal studies, she loves to watch Wednesday night comedies on ABC, including The Goldbergs, The Middle, Modern Family, and Blackish. And, as a professional tap dancer, she teaches tap, ballet, and jazz.
Thank you, Audrey, for volunteering!
